Tackling Fuel Poverty

Buckingham Town Council has been taking action to tackle fuel poverty. We are providing this information on the AVALC website to help people throughout the Aylesbury Vale Area manage their fuel bills.

We would first highlight the work of the Citizens’ Advice Bureau (CAB) which does a huge amount for people who face bills that they are struggling to pay. If this is you and, whether or not you have sought help before, please go along to the CAB offices in Buckingham or Aylesbury where you will be able to get good, helpful and totally confidential advice. The CAB is there to help people and they do this rather well. If you are worrying about your coming bills in any way, the CAB will be able to assist you.

There are numerous public footpaths and bridleways criss-crossing our village and surrounding area within the parish limits. The ultimate responsibility for the upkeep of these ‘rights of way’ lies with the County Council and the landowners. The Parish Council is asking for volunteers to walk one (or more if you are feeling energetic) of these routes during the month of May in order to identify and report back on any problems such as broken stiles, missing directional signs, areas that have become overgrown etc. So, if you enjoy walking and getting out in the fresh air, or giving your dog (or children!) a good dollop of exercise, pick a nice day and a Footpath number and get out there! It would make sense to liaise so that routes are not covered twice. Therefore, we would be grateful if you would call Alice Guise (860 158) and advise her of your planned route and she will be able to tell you if that particular one has been walked already. The website has a section displaying the routes of our footpaths and there are hard copies also available. Please click here to visit the maps page.

Happy rambling!

Door to door sales – Aylesbury Vale

Thames Valley Police is asking the residents of Aylesbury Vale to be vigilant and report any door to door sellers in their area.

Callers can be selling household items or offering home improvements, such as new driveways or replacement windows.  Home improvement work is often offered without necessary cancellation rights and sales people can use high pressure selling tactics and target vulnerable or elderly members of the community.
