On Wednesday 19th March 2014 we received confirmation from the government team at the Department of Culture Media & Sport that the bid for funding Superfast broadband has been approved. This amounts to over £580k (75%) from the government and a further £190k+ (25%) from BT making a total of over £770k for our North East Bucks community along with 1 other in South Bucks and 1 in Herts.
Our 4 villages – Lillingstone Lovell, Lillingstone Dayrell, Akeley and Leckhampstead – should have access to Superfast Broadband within 12 months. Many thanks to all of the residents of Akeley who signed up as well as the Superfast Broadband Group, “Czars of Akeley” and Villagers of Lovell, Dayrell and Leckhampstead – what a great team effort – your passion for superfast broadband is ultimately why we were successful. Our thanks our Bucks CC Councillor – Warren Whyte and our AVDC District Councillor’ Pearl Lewis; and of course, a big thank you to our MP John Bercow. John’s intervention was key to our bid being a success.
The next step is a lot more paperwork including a formal change request to the Bucks Broadband rollout programme. That will lead to detail timing which we will of course share when it’s known.
Finally a very big thank you to Ian Flexer and Chris Rawson of Bucks Business First who wrote and submitted this winning bid in partnership with our community and the 2 other community groups.
