A show schedule and entry form is included with this newsletter so please take a look and see what you could enter.  There is plenty to choose from whether you grow flowers or vegetables or bake or make preserves.

We would like to encourage new people to enter so if you have any questions about how to go about entering or how to display your entries please contact Sherri on 860486 or Jackie on 860295 and we will be happy to give you any help or advice we can – here are few tips to get you started:

Some Hints for Success

  • All fruit and vegetables should be washed, fruit being displayed with stalks but no leaves.
  • Items in a set should be as near equal in size and appearance as possible.
  • Specimen flowers should have excess buds and unnecessary foliage removed.
  • Collections of Vegetables, Fruits and Flowers should be garden cultivated not wild.
  • For jams and marmalade, jars should be well filled and displayed with a clear top.
  • All bottled produce should be labelled and dated.

There are numerous public footpaths and bridleways criss-crossing our village and surrounding area within the parish limits. The ultimate responsibility for the upkeep of these ‘rights of way’ lies with the County Council and the landowners. The Parish Council is asking for volunteers to walk one (or more if you are feeling energetic) of these routes during the month of May in order to identify and report back on any problems such as broken stiles, missing directional signs, areas that have become overgrown etc. So, if you enjoy walking and getting out in the fresh air, or giving your dog (or children!) a good dollop of exercise, pick a nice day and a Footpath number and get out there! It would make sense to liaise so that routes are not covered twice. Therefore, we would be grateful if you would call Alice Guise (860 158) and advise her of your planned route and she will be able to tell you if that particular one has been walked already. The website has a section displaying the routes of our footpaths and there are hard copies also available. Please click here to visit the maps page.

Happy rambling!
